DESIGN CONCEPT
Accessibility was a primary driver in the design of this residential elevator project. The homeowners were focused on ensuring they could comfortably access all four levels of their home as they age, leading them to opt for a thoughtfully integrated elevator installation. Beyond function, it was equally important that the elevator felt like a natural extension of the home’s existing style and charm. The design prioritizes warmth, timeless materials, and architectural continuity, allowing the elevator to blend seamlessly with both the interior spaces and the exterior façade. The result is a solution that supports long-term livability without sacrificing the character or elegance of the home.
ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN
The original layout did not include a vertical transportation solution connecting all levels of the home. Movement between floors relied entirely on stairs, limiting accessibility and long-term flexibility for the homeowners. Existing adjacent spaces, including hallways and service areas, were not configured to accommodate an elevator shaft or pit.
NEW FLOOR PLAN
The revised plan introduces a vertically stacked elevator shaft that connects the lower level, main living floor, and upper level. The elevator was carefully positioned to minimize disruption to surrounding rooms while maintaining proper clearances, structural support, and code compliance. Each floor now includes a discreet elevator landing that integrates naturally with adjacent circulation paths, improving accessibility without sacrificing usable square footage.

FINISHES
The elevator cab features rich stained wood wall panels accented with recessed decorative trim to create a warm, tailored look that reflects the character of the home. A coordinating wood ceiling with flush-mounted recessed lighting provides soft, even illumination while maintaining a clean profile. Light natural wood flooring within the cab adds contrast and brightness, balancing the darker wall tones. Brushed metal accents, including the handrail and control panel, introduce subtle durability and refinement, while the smooth painted exterior door and trim were selected to blend seamlessly with the surrounding interior architecture.
