DESIGN CONCEPT

The Primary Bathroom was transformed from a dated and compartmentalized layout into a modern, spa-like retreat. The new design replaced the oversized corner tub and dark, heavy finishes with a light, open environment emphasizing comfort and clean lines. The goal was to create a space that feels serene and sophisticated, with soft neutral tones, warm brass accents, and custom-painted cabinetry that brings character and contrast. Natural light became a focal point in the new design, complemented by contemporary lighting fixtures and a cohesive material palette that reflects both luxury and function. Every detail, from the quartz countertop to the vertical shower tile and brushed gold hardware, was selected to achieve timeless balance and quiet refinement.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original bathroom configuration included a large corner soaking tub beneath the window, a single-sink vanity that limited usable counter space, and a small enclosed shower area. The room’s layout made it feel smaller than its actual size, and the dark wall color combined with outdated finishes absorbed light rather than reflecting it. Circulation within the space was awkward, with wasted square footage around the tub and minimal storage. The ceiling vault was present but underutilized, and overall, the design lacked visual flow and modern comfort. The original plan, as documented in the as-built drawings, clearly showed the separation between the vanity, tub, and shower areas that this renovation sought to unify.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The new plan completely reimagines the layout. The unused tub was removed to allow for an expanded, glass-enclosed shower featuring dual niches, a built-in bench with a stained wood top, and vertical porcelain tile that enhances the room’s height. The vanity wall now includes two sinks, providing dedicated space for both users while maintaining symmetry under framed mirrors and integrated sconces. Electrical improvements included a hardwired LED makeup mirror, a heated towel bar, and a quiet exhaust fan with integrated light. The design also added thoughtful built-in details such as docking drawers with power and USB, ensuring modern convenience without clutter. By reworking the circulation, the remodel maximizes storage and function while highlighting the vaulted ceiling and natural window light.

DETAILS:

CABINETS

The custom vanity cabinetry was built from painted maple in the “Evergreen Fog” finish by Legacy, part of their Signature series with the Hamilton wide-rail shaker profile. Each cabinet is constructed with full-overlay fronts and five-piece recessed drawer panels for clean, modern detailing. Honey Bronze completes the cabinetry and ties into the rest of the metal finishes throughout the space. The double vanity configuration features upgrade includes an electrical docking drawer and a built-in hair appliance organizer, marrying aesthetics with functionality.

TILE AND STONE

The countertops are fabricated quartz in a polished finish with eased edges, paired with a white pure stone sill at the shower threshold and knee wall cap for a seamless transition. A stained wood bench top introduces a hint of warmth and texture, contrasting beautifully with the cool tile and quartz. Accent details, such as the penny round Matte mosaic in the shower niches, create visual depth and texture while maintaining the understated palette. Every grout line and edge was carefully planned, using Oatmeal tones to blend seamlessly with the tile selection.

FINISHES

The finish palette was designed to evoke calmness and natural balance. The floor is clad in Garden State Tile Anthem Steel White porcelain in a matte finish, chosen for its subtle texture and durability. The shower walls are finished with Bedrosians Celine tiles in Taupe, stacked vertically to elongate the walls visually. The shower floor features Herringbone Mosaic in honed marble, providing soft contrast and tactile warmth. The wall color, Balboa Mist in a matte Aura Bath & Spa finish, complements the natural stone and tile while keeping the atmosphere light and inviting.
